The clinician teaches the technique to the client, who can use it to stop racing thoughts or obsessive worrying. In this technique, when the obsessive or racing thoughts begin, the client says, clearly and distinctly, Stop! This then allows the client to substitute a new, healthier thought. Many therapists encourage the client to, at first, yell out the Stop! This helps focus the attention on the word and away from the obsessive thought. Later, the client will be able to mentally yell the word to themselves without needing to say it aloud. Does Thought Stopping Really Work? While some therapists and group therapy programs promote thought stopping as an effective technique, the results of a 2010 study by a group of Yale psychologists disagree. One study found an association between thought-stopping strategies and greater depression and anxiety, not less. The psychologists found an association between anxiety reduction and other strategies including, cognitive restructuring, acceptance, and problem-solving techniques. Thought Stopping DIY Do you have repetitive negative thoughts swirling around in your psyche youd like to get rid of? You might be having irrational feelings of jealousy, or maybe you experience negative self-talk that undermines your self-confidence. You dont need a trained clinician to apply thought-stopping strategies, although some people may require professional assistance. If youre helping your child, explain that the two of you are going to try something to help alleviate their negative thoughts. You can have a shot at doing it yourself by following these four steps: Say Stop! when you experience a recurring thought, either aloud or to yourself.Negate the bad thought in a positive way, by exchanging the negative thought for a positive one. Replace I cannot... or I will not... with I can... or I will...Take a deep breath, or learn a breathing relaxation technique, to help you relax instead of feeling anxiety, and say the peaceful thought out loud or in your mind repeatedly until the bad thought disappears.Complete these steps every time you notice the recurring thought. Stress Inoculation Training, PTSD, and Thought Stopping Stress inoculation training (SIT), along with cognitive behavior therapy, is particularly successful at preventing the development of chronic post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This technique also speeds up the recovery for female victims of sexual violence with PTSD, according to information from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Thought stopping is one of a variety of coping skills taught during SIT. Other coping skills include: Deep muscle relaxation trainingBreath controlRole-playingPositive thinking Adjustment Disorders After Cancer and Thought Stopping Most patients can adjust to their lives after the rigors of cancer treatment, but unfortunately, some dont and develop adjustment disorders, including agoraphobia, social phobia, social anxiety disorder, or specific phobia. A patient with adjustment disorders experiences anxiety and other emotional problems that are more severe than expected and cause problems for them at home or work. Thought stopping is one component of a treatment plan that can help improve the quality of life for patients with adjustment disorders after cancer treatment. Adjustment disorders before, during, and after cancer treatment can be complex mental issues, which require professional guidance for successful treatment. How to Structure News Stories With the Inverted Pyramid
There are a few basic rules for writing and structuring any news story. If youââ¬â¢re accustomed to other types of writing ââ¬â such as fiction ââ¬â these rules may seem odd at first. But the format is easy to pick up, and there are very practical reasons why reporters have followed this format for decades. Inverted Pyramid in News The inverted pyramid is the model for news writing. It simply means that the heaviest or most important information should be at the top ââ¬â the beginning ââ¬â of your story, and the least important information should go at the bottom. And as you move from top to bottom, the information presented should gradually become less important. In the age of internet news, many online news outlets have tweaked this format to align with search engines. But the basic premise remains the same: Get the most important information at the top of the news story. How to Write with the Inverted Pyramid Letââ¬â¢s say youââ¬â¢re writing a story about a fire in which two people are killed and their house is destroyed. In your reporting, youââ¬â¢ve gathered a lot of details including the victimsââ¬â¢ names, the address of their home, what time the blaze broke out, and possibly what officials believe may have caused the fire. Obviously, the most important information is the fact that two people died in the fire. Thatââ¬â¢s what you want at the top of your story. Other details ââ¬â the names of the deceased, the address of their home, when the fire occurred ââ¬â should certainly be included. But they can be placed lower down in the story, not at the very top. And the least important information - things like what the weather was like at the time, or the color of the home - should be at the very bottom of the story (if included at all). Story Follows The Lede The other important aspect of structuring a news article is making sure the story follows logically from the lede (this is a deliberate misspelling of lead, which prevented confusion among typesetters in the early days of newspapers). So if the lede of your story focuses on the fact that two people were killed in the house fire, the paragraphs that immediately follow the lede should elaborate on that fact. You wouldnt want the second or third paragraph of the story to discuss the weather at the time of the fire, for example. Details such as the peoples names, their ages and how long they had lived in the home would all be important to include immediately following the lede sentence. History of the Inverted Pyramid The inverted pyramid format turns traditional storytelling on its head. In a short story or novel, the most important moment ââ¬â the climax - typically comes about two-thirds of the way through, closer to the end. But in news writing, the most important moment is right at the start of the lede. The inverted pyramid format was developed during the Civil War. Newspaper correspondents covering that warââ¬â¢s great battles relied on telegraph machines to transmit their stories back to their newspapersââ¬â¢ offices. But often saboteurs would cut the telegraph lines, so reporters learned to transmit the most important information ââ¬â General Lee defeated at Gettysburg, for instance ââ¬â at the very start of the transmission to make sure it got through successfully. The use of the inverted pyramid also grew in popularity because as the news cycle grew shorter with the advent of television and online news, readers attention spans grew shorter as well. Now, theres no guarantee readers will continue to the end of a story, so getting the most important information at the top of the story is more important than ever.

Relationship Between Ltl Trucking And Scripture - 881 Words
LTL Trucking has had a history of management difficulties. Although, conflict is a natural part of human relations and can be a positive force in the workplace, once forgiveness has taken place. Challenges occur in any organization and dealing with conflict in the workplace can be straining and create an uncomfortable work environment. However, as indicated by Hess Cameron (2006), forgiveness allows for the continuation of interpersonal connections in the midst of conflict, turmoil, or change (p.172). Forgiveness has many organizational benefits and LTL trucking implemented it in an effort to improve their organizational performance. Comparison of Forgiveness between LTL Trucking and Scripture The most important epitomes that LTL Trucking practices is forgiveness. Poor communication and misunderstanding creates conflict in the workplace. Managing and resolving those conflicts is possible through forgiveness. According to Satne (2016), forgiveness is a personal response to wrongdoing, which consist in overcoming spitefulness, malice, and credulity understood as a hateful desire for revenge or retaliation. Sam and John encountered conflict on the job at LTL Trucking; however, they forgave each other and moved on beyond their grudges. These events caused management to transform the organization. John felt that the company should be followed exactly and Sam felt that drivers should be able to work in a comfortable environment and make executive decisions and be trusted to do

Morality of specific actions Free Essays
It is not a secret that everyone can make mistake and there is no person who has never made mistake throughout the life. But what mistake and what sequences and problems it can lead to ââ¬â it is another question? For instance, when in 1986 the specialists responsible for the Chernobyl Nuclear Power plant lacked a ââ¬Ësafety cultureââ¬â¢ resulting in an inability to remedy design weaknesses despite being known about before the accident ââ¬â they made mistakes (Causes of the Chernobyl Accident 1). Afterwards, those mistakes led to the global disaster. We will write a custom essay sample on Morality of specific actions or any similar topic only for you Order Now The chain reaction in the reactor became out of control creating explosions. High radiation level took place in the surrounding 20-mile radius and more than 30 people were killed immediately and about 135,000 were evacuated. In general, the result of the mistakes was 2,500 deaths (Health and Physiological à à à à à à à à à Consequences 1). Actually, it is very difficult to evaluate the damage and consequences of the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster. Thus, evaluating the specific actions of the specialists in this case, we can say that off course their mistakes were inadmissible and these people had to be hold to higher standards of legal responsibility and their actions had to be considered as a crime. As to the advantages of the given position it should be pointed out that higher standards of legal accountability and responsibility make people understand the importance of their specific actions and problems, which can be caused, as a result of their mistakes. Such punishment will help to avoid repeating the similar accidents in the future. On the other hand, the given position has also its disadvantages. For instance, if higher standards of legal responsibility take place a doctor will think twice before to start a difficult operation. However, sometimes a doctor has to make an urgent decision and has almost no time to take into consideration all factors and threads, as a result of which a patient can die. In this case, a doctor has to think about a patient and try the best to safe his life, but not about higher standards. So, coming to the conclusion it should be emphasized that higher standards of legal responsibility have to take place, but also they have to take into account all possible circumstances, which may occur in the future. My Tuesdays With Morrie Essays (1003 words) - Self-help Books
My Tuesdays With Morrie Mitch Albom, author of Tuesdays with Morrie, is flipping through his TV stations one night and he heard these words come from his TV set- Who is Morrie Schwartz?- And Mitch went numb. Mitch found out through the TV show Nightline that his life long friend and teacher is dying and Mitch knows that he has to go and see him. Mitch goes to see his old college professor and what starts out as a one-day meeting turns into a four-month class. The class is conducted in Morries house in the suburb or Boston, there is no books or any other students, just Mitch and Morrie. Throughout this class Morrie teaches Mitch the lessons of life; lessons such as death, fear, aging, greed, marriage, family, society, forgiveness, and a meaningful life. As Morries conditions worsen, Mitchs condition is getting better, Mitch is becoming a better person with the help of Morrie. Finally Morries life comes to an end, and Mitch graduates from Life 101. I felt the seeds of death inside his shriveling frame, and as I laid him in his chair, adjusting his head on the pillow, I had the coldest realization that our time was running out. (Pg. 59) That is what Mitch, a journal writer for the Detroit Free Press, said as he lifted his old college teacher from his wheelchair to his recliner. His old college teacher is Morrie Schwartz, a man that is dying from ALS otherwise known as Lou Gehrig disease. As the book goes on, Morrie reaches out to people who want to talk and he teaches them about the real lessons of life, while he is lying on his deathbed. Tuesdays With Morrie is an excellent book because Morrie teaches Mitch lessons about marriage, greed, and family that young adults can learn from. Love each other or perish. This quote sums up all of Morries views and beliefs on the topic of marriage and love. This statement says a lot and I feel that young adults can learn a very big lesson from this short quote. Love and marriage are very important because we all need someone to love and to love back, if we dont we are going to live a very lonely and unhappy life. There is a set of rules that Morrie stated in this book that I feel young adults could learn a lot from. Morrie said that your going to have a lot of trouble if you dont respect the other person, if you dont now how to compromise, if you cant talk openly about what goes on between you, and if you dont have a common set of values in life. And the biggest one of those values is your belief in the importance of your marriage. I think that everything that Morrie says in that passage is very true. When he talks about if you dont know how to compromise then you are going to have a lot of trouble. This is very true, if you cant work and give up some things to make things succeed with the person that you love then you are going to have a lot of problems. I really feel that young adults can learn a lot from that passage as well as throughout the book about marriage. Another issue that Morrie talks to Mitch about that I feel young adults can learn from is greed, and how we as people put our values in the wrong things. I also feel that this is true in todays society. We do put our values in the wrong things, we put our values in money, cars, cloths, and many others, but we all know that that is the wrong place to put our heart. Im sure that we have all heard the quote, When we die, you cant take it with you. Since this has been mentioned so much I dont need to go in depth about it, but I really feel that this is true, we need to realize that we cant take our material things with us when we die. What I think that young adults can learn from this chapter is that you dont go through your whole life putting

The film tells a story of gang members who are bound together by a well-guided code of honour amongst the gang members and their stories of being outlaws hence the filmââ¬â¢s title ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢ The Wild Bunch ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢ The film as contrasted to other films of its times and those set in the same background such as the movie, The Proposition. The film is set on the background against the difficult and tasking terrain of the à olden days. Both movies in their own way tell of a tale of visually stimulating as well as stunning tale of loyalty of a group of members. Both plots of the films are about revenge, conquest as well as pursue justice in what is largely seen as a lawless state. pKb Definition in Chemistry
pKb Definition in Chemistry pKb is the negative base-10 logarithm of the base dissociation constant (Kb) of a solution. It is used to determine the strength of a base or alkaline solution. pKb -log10KbThe lower the pKb value, the stronger the base. As with the acid dissociation constant, pKa, the base dissociation constant calculation is an approximation that is only accurate in dilute solutions. Kb can be found using the following formula: Kb [B][OH-] / [BOH] which is obtained from the chemical equation: BHà OHâËâà ââ¡Å' B H2O Finding pKb from pKa or Ka The base dissociation constant is related to the acid dissociation constant, so if you know one, you can find the other value. For an aqueous solution, the hydroxide ion concentration [OH- follows the relation of the hydrogen ion concentration [H] Kw [H][OH- Putting this relation into the Kb equation gives: Kb [HBKw / ([B][H]) Kw / Ka At the same ionic strength and temperatures: pKb pKw - pKa. For aqueous solutions at 25à ° C, pKw 13.9965 (or about 14), so: pKb 14 - pKa Sample pKb Calculation Find the value of the base dissociation constant Kb and pKb for a 0.50 dm-3 aqueous solution of a weak base that has a pH of 9.5. First calculate the hydrogen and hydroxide ion concentrations in the solution to get values to plug into the formula. [H] 10-pH 10-9.5 à 3.16 x 10ââ¬â10à mol dmââ¬â3 Kwà [H(aq)] [OHââ¬â(aq)] 1 x 10ââ¬â14à mol2à dmââ¬â6 [OHââ¬â(aq)]à Kw/[H(aq)] 1 x 10ââ¬â14à / 3.16 x 10ââ¬â10à 3.16 x 10ââ¬â5à mol dmââ¬â3 Now, you have the necessary information to solve for the base dissociation constant: Kbà [OHââ¬â(aq)]2/[B(aq)] (3.16 x 10ââ¬â5)2à / 0.50à 2.00 x 10ââ¬â9à mol dmââ¬â3 pKbà ââ¬âlog(2.00 x 10ââ¬â9)à 8.70
